My parents and I had lived in this small one bedroom house; it used to be a guest home for a much bigger house. When we first moved there in 1997 I would always have nightmares. We eventually moved to much bigger house but during the time we lived there, I would always see and hear things.
When I turned six I started sleeping on the couch. In December of 2003, when I was eight, I had the worst “nightmare” of my life! I was lying in the couch, trying to fall asleep, but I couldn’t. The lights from the Christmas tree kept me awake. I stared at the star on top of the tree for about an hour or so and then I was suddenly startled by my dogs. They had started barking like crazy! I looked outside the window to see what was wrong but they were too fogged up. I just ignored it and lay back down.
As I lay back down I heard a loud bang on the window. (The window was right above the back of the couch) I was too scared to check what it was. The dogs then started to whimper like they were being hurt or something. I lay on the couch under the covers sweating like crazy! And then there were two more bangs. I started to cry. The light on the Christmas tree had gone out.
I tried to scream but I was really hesitant. I closed my eyes and then the couch started to shake! The dogs were still going crazy. I pulled the covers from over my head to see what it was. I looked down and up but there was nothing. The room grew cold and the heater turned off. The lights went back on. They were the type of Christmas lights that change color but the color stayed at red. Ornaments started to fall from the tree.
I had closed my eyes but the red lights burned into them so I could still just see red. The CD player under the TV Started to play the tool CD that was in it. It turned off and on until I grew the courage to open my eyes again. The dogs started to howl as the red lights dimmed and finally turned to green. I couldn’t get up because the fallen tree ornaments had shattered and there was glass every where. I didn’t know what to do.
It didn’t stop there. I lay there in the couch for another hour waiting for something to happen. It was now 3:33 A.M. The Christmas lights were working properly. But again they went out. All of the lights except for the star on top had gone out. I just passed out. I woke up the next morning and there was glass all over the carpet. My parents were still asleep. I don’t know what happened but I’m sure it wasn’t a dream. It was the scariest night of my life.
