Traditional Eggnog Recipe

January 26, 2009 by: goober

Ingredients to make Traditional Eggnog:

12 eggs, separated
6 cups milk
2 cups heavy cream

1 1/2 cups sugar
2 tbs ground nutmeg

Optional:

2 cups bourbon
3/4 cups brandy

Preparation Instructions:

Separate the egg yolks from the whites and place in separate bowls.
Combine egg yolks and sugar together in a large bowl and blend with a mixer for 10 minutes, or until the mixture is firm and the color of butter.

Add the brandy and bourbon and refrigerate. About 30 minutes before you want to serve the eggnog, remove it from the refrigerator and stir in the milk and nutmeg.

Beat the heavy cream in a bowl with a mixer on the high setting until is begins to form stiff peaks. In a separate bowl, beat egg whites with a mixer until they also form stiff peaks.

Gently combine the egg white and egg yolk mixture together and then add the cream mixture.

After you pour the eggnog into the cups, garnish the top with a little nutmeg for extra flavor.
